Compaq laptop corrosion
Well... I got a new laptop, for for the most part it's pretty good.
What i'm not happy about is the corrosion of the front grille of the laptop.
It seems that when I use my trackpad, the sweat from my hands goes into the speaker grille. The grille is made of cheapo metal that I cannot easily identify. The sweat has, over the period of 3 months has caused it to corrode into a nasty black mass.
This horrible mass wont come off without some abrasive intervention, which I don't really want to do as my warranty is voided. The rust seems to grind into my hand, and after a while discolours the skin. That *can not* be good for me.
It has completely worn the paint away from the front, so it's just going to keep happening even if I do clean it.
Sufficed to say, I am less than happy, and as it is only cosmetic, the supplier refuses to exchange it.
I have written a long letter to compaq with the pictures included, but no response yet.

The corrosion is where my palm rests when using the trackpad.

This takes a large portion of the front panel.
rust with HP speaker grill is big problem
You know the worst part about the rusty grill issue. Those folks at HP knew about the rusting, looking at the number of cases. And then they just picked up the unsold pieces from the western markets design flaw and all, and shipped it to the third world countries. (design flaw- cause it should have been of durable fibre or plastic.)
And it was a very small dot when i took it to service guys before the warranty expired, the service guy said dont worry use an ext. keyboard to avoid sweaty palms there. So they knew about it. 2 months later it is completely screwed... despite the ext. keyboard, with warranty gone So shouldnt we all get together and blame faulty design. do i hear a chorus going "class action suite?" I had the same exact thing
I had the same exact thing happen to my hp zv500 the speaker grill is right where the palm rests and it's curved so you rest a large portion of your palm on it while using the laptop. I'm used to the space bar enter and home keys wearing down with usage but the plastic even where my hand rested got entirely smooth then i see the paint wear away on the speak grill the primer then it was down to bare metal and looked like yours i put in a lot of hours on the laptop but never expected that. I sold it on ebay with pics showing the cosmetic damages i actually got quite a bit for it compared to what they were selling for. I just got a tablet pc from HP and now im looking to make sure no one has had similar issues with these. They really need to test their products better like a mattress manufacturer will test how long before springs wear out HP should test how long before plastic starts to get smooth from hitting the keys to the metal fading etc these are easy tests and if they did them and made more durrable products it would easily get them more sales especially since laptops are so powerful and upgradeable now people are going to have them for much longer and use them more.
