Embrace all religions..It means more holidays!
It can't be denied that religion has caused a lot of tension and wars over the years, and it also can't be denied that Britain is now a truly multi-cultural society and immigration and influxes of new people has been part of the make up of Britain for hundreds of years (yes it has, so deal with it you BNP voting, unaware of 1000 years of history Fascists).
I say its time we recognise this in a positive way. The way I propose to do this is to treat every religion equally and make every religious holiday a bank holiday. Think of it! There would be over 100 bank holidays, how great would that be!
The way it would work would be that every holiday would be a non-denominal celebration of one of our country's great people or traditions. So, for example, 2nd October would be Yom Kippur to the Jewish but to the rest of us it would be the Michael Palin Bank Holiday and 22nd December would be the Winter Solstice for the Pagans but for the rest of us it would be the Bank Holiday to Celebrate How Great Cream Teas Are. This would also go for Christian festivals. I propose to make Christmas Day the Sir Trevor MacDonald Bank Holiday and Boxing Day, the Julie Walters Bank Holiday.
This way religious communities can celebrate there special days without having you use up their holiday days, and the rest of us get a nice day off.
So, to all my friends and family, expect a Sir Trevor MacDonald Day present from me this year
