Pretec GPS mod 3
Pretec compactGPS serial mod... the nitty gritty
Here is a short guide to making the pcb for yourself. I used stripboard, and it has served we well up to now.J2 is power pin1 GND pin2 3.3-11v
J1 is serial from GPS
J3 is RS232 to computer

PCB modification
Solder the components to the stripboard as in the diagram. When you come to solder the SMT on the underside of the board, be careful to line it up perfectly. The chip should only cover 3 strips of stripboard, the middle two pins are GND lines and should cover 1 whole strip for the 2.
I bridged the two legs together, and didnt cut the track on adjacent sides of the chip. This was done for thermal reasons. We dont want the whole lot melting!
Look at the images on the bottom of the preceeding pages. These are all the snaps I tools while making the converter.
